FOOD FOR SENIORS
At Gifts for Seniors, we strive to alleviate the devastating adverse health impacts of social isolation for over 8,000 older adults across Minnesota. Our inclusive programs provide life-affirming social visits and equitable access to community resources for living and aging well.
Our Food for Seniors program provides hunger relief for our community's most vulnerable neighbors - the homebound living with health, mobility, or transportation challenges that prevent adequate access to healthy food.

More than 20% of older adults in the United States will experience food insufficiency at some point in their 60s and 70s, according to a University of Michigan study.
“The extent of food-related hardship among seniors in any given year is well documented. In 2019, 2.8% of Americans ages 60 and older reported experiencing food insufficiency. From some perspectives, this is a relatively small fraction. But it still means more than 2 million seniors did not have enough food, and the prevalence of hardship over a longer time period will almost certainly be greater.”

According to Second Harvest Heartland, nearly 4% of seniors in Minnesota were estimated to be food in secure in 2021. In addition, those born before 1965 are the fastest-growing group of visitors to food shelves. They also report that 8,583 Minnesotans received food boxed through Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) in 2023.
